Leaving features behind, but overall decent

Old unifi poe switches (first gen) had 24V passthrough, now its only 48 and requires a additional module that unifi sells also... seems almost intentional. The deice is clean, no fan so nice and quiet... i think the screen on the front for management is kinda useless, and could never see a need to actually do diagnostics via 2 inch screen I would have traded the 2 inch diagnostic screen for 24V passthrough... but then again probably would need a fan then... also only layer2 ... layer 3 would have been nice... 1gig sfp :(

Gen2: silent, sleek, screen a little useless

With the Gen2 of switches rolling out, we see much of the original USW design and the sleekness of all the Unifi products. There are two major factors that are different: 1) no more fans. Passive cooling only. The one that I installed in my own SOHO office currently serves 12 devices, including a few PoE+ devices and it feels like barely 2-3 degrees above room temperature. 2) the touchscreen. It's hardly useful in 99% of the situations, but allows for some easy troubleshooting. Not sure I'd want just anybody scrolling around in there and there is no protection other than it blacking out after a few seconds. I'm hoping to see it evolving over time. I was hoping that this model would also be layer-3 ready and have 10Gbit SFP uplinks, but it doesn't. So it's hardly an upgrade from the Gen1. The PRO version does offer these extra options, but come at roughly double the price.
